NS Developer withdraws zone change plans

10/8/2009

North Stonington - Milltown Commons LLC has withdrawn its application for the proposed New England Village Special Design District that called for a hotel, medical center and hundreds of new housing units in the town.

”Milltown Commons has respectfully withdrawn its application at this time until text amendment changes can catch-up with the design and provide guidance for the Master Plan criteria,” the development firm said in a statement Wednesday.

Milltown Commons LLC was seeking a zone change approval to eventually build a village that called for 273 housing units, several restaurants, a hotel, bank medical center and retail and office space. The slated location for the project was at the routes 2 and 184 rotary.

A public hearing on the project's master plan was opened last week and was scheduled to continue tonight.

But during last week's hearing, developer Alan Pesch warned that if the zoning regulations governing the design district need amendments the application would have to be withdrawn.

The project is no longer on the agenda for the meeting, but the meeting is still scheduled for 7 p.m. at town hall for another hearing on proposed zoning regulation changes pertaining to storm water management.
