Recent Developments

The Westerly Hospital announced an intention to locate in Milltown with an urgent care and physical therapy extension to the hospital to service CT residents. Occupancy is planned for mid-2010.

Dynasys Corporation located in the complex in spring of 2009. They are an international engineering company.

The Master Plan has been changed to coordinate with the desires expressed by the residents and town commissions. These changes include:

  • Added retail for more tax revenue and services to residents.
  • Added housing over retail in an affordable range to serve young town residents who can’t find housing in town at levels they can afford.  These residents are educated by the town, then forced to move and pay taxes in other towns as well as being distant from family and roots in North Stonington.
  • Added housing for seniors who are selling large homes and downsizing, but desire to remain in the community

Master Plan Schedule and Events

The Master Plan will be presented to the town on October 1, 2009.

We presented the existing Master Plan to the Inland Wetlands Commission and provided the Commission with a 1’ contour map showing all wetlands and defining our current work on the site.  Future site walks will occur with the Commission.

The present design premise is to preserve the wetlands and add buffers and service areas to enhance the country setting atmosphere.  Walking trails will provide access through the site for residents and connect to the State Forest from the rotary and Blue Trail.

Milltown is seen as a benefit to the school needs of the town as it delivers a forecasted $1,000,000+ tax payment, over costs to the town, per year and has low impact on school children versus the single family housing provided in the town.
